Vuelta Abajo is a district in the Pinar del Río Province of Cuba located at 150 km from Habana. (Find Vuelta Abajo on a map)
It lies in the extreme western part of the island, bordered on the north by the Órganos Mountains.
Tabacco grown in this famous "Vuelta Abajo" is considered to be the highest quality type of cigar tobacco from Pinar del Rio district in general and with no doubt the finest cigar tobacco-growing land in the world.
Vuelta Abajo is also the main source of tobacco for Habanos, and the only region that grows all types of leaf.
But even here less than a quarter of the tobacco-growing land enjoys the Vegas Finas de Primera status that is required for the growing of tobacco for Habanos. Habano production is made from 5 areas of culture : Vuelta Abajo, Semi-Vuelta, Partido, Remedios and Oriente. The famous fabricas de Habano are located mainly in Habana. You can visit these Fabricas like the one of Partagas cigars.
